Dr. Lara is a native Californian. She is the eldest of nine children in a large Latino family born and reared in Oxnard, California. Dr. Lara worked for ten years as a registered nurse including labor and delivery before returning to school to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
She attended Boston University School of Medicine. She trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. After completing her residency training she remained on staff at Harvard for nine more years as a clinical instructor. During this time she taught residents and medical students and was nominated for a NatIonal teaching award by the medical students at Harvard. She was involved in numerous community projects focused on teaching and empowering women with an emphasis on minority women. She was an original founder of the first Latino physician group at Harvard.
She returned to her home town of Oxnard in 2005 where she now practices. Her practice is named:
CELEBRATING WOMEN CENTER for Health, Beauty and Wellness. Her mission is to educate and to empower women. Her philosophy is that she enters a collaborative partnership with her patients aimed at optimizing their health.
She likes to remind people that to be a doctor means to teach and she claims that she ‘never met a mike she didn’t like’
